ERBIL, Kurdistan Region – The Kurdistan Regional Government’s Qushtapa Water Project is moving toward completion earlier than expected, marking a major step in improving water access across Erbil Governorate.
Launched in 2024 under the direction of Prime Minister Masrour Barzani, the project was originally planned for two years. Current progress stands at 81 percent, with delivery expected ahead of schedule.
With a budget of IQD 222 billion, the project is designed to provide clean drinking water and irrigation to Qushtapa and Bestana districts, as well as 72 surrounding villages. Once operational, it will supply 3,000 cubic metres of water per hour, meeting international standards and serving an estimated 240,000 people.
