Half of Runaki households across the Kurdistan Region received electricity bills below 29,000 Iraqi dinars during the July billing cycle, according to new data from the Ministry of Electricity.

The billing period covered about 33 days for most homes.

The ministry said half of all participating households also used less than 406 kilowatt-hours of electricity during the cycle.

Most Households Reportedly Paying Less

The Kurdistan Regional Government said about 80% of households under Runaki pay less for electricity than they did before joining the program. It said this includes many low-income households.

About 90% of the Kurdistan Region now receives 24-hour electricity through Runaki, according to the government. The KRG plans to extend round-the-clock power to every home and business by the end of 2026.

Prime Minister Masrour Barzani announced the program in October 2024. The Council of Ministers approved Runaki and its progressive electricity rates in May 2025.

The KRG has also offered a one-time discount of up to 50% on unpaid electricity debt from before Runaki. The offer will remain open until September 10, 2026.

The figures were published by the KRG Ministry of Electricity on September 6.
