According to the Kurdistan Regional Government, both sides exchanged views on current political and regional issues. The talks covered developments in Iraq and the broader Middle East.

Barzani and Davutoğlu also stressed the need to strengthen relations between the Kurdistan Region and Türkiye. They discussed ways to improve cooperation and coordination in areas of shared interest.

The meeting comes as Erbil and Ankara continue to maintain close political and economic contact. Türkiye remains an important neighbor for the Kurdistan Region, with ties linked to trade, transport, energy, security, and regional diplomacy.

Regional Coordination Remains a Key Focus

The presence of Türkiye’s consul general underlined the role of diplomatic channels in managing relations between Erbil and Ankara.

The KRG statement did not list specific agreements from the meeting. It said both sides focused on dialogue, coordination, and regional developments.

Davutoğlu has met Kurdish leaders in Erbil before. In 2025, he also met Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani, where talks included Türkiye’s relations with Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, as well as wider regional issues.

Tuesday’s meeting adds to a series of recent political contacts between Kurdish and Turkish officials. It also signals that Erbil continues to place regional dialogue at the center of its foreign relations.
