Prime Minister Masrour Barzani received Anıl Bora İnan, Türkiye’s Ambassador to Iraq, in Erbil to discuss relations between the Kurdistan Region and Türkiye.
The meeting was also attended by Erman Topçu, Türkiye’s Consul General in the Kurdistan Region.
Both sides stressed the need to strengthen ties between the Kurdistan Region and Türkiye. Trade was a key focus of the discussion.
They also reviewed Prime Minister Barzani’s recent visit to Türkiye, where he met President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and other senior Turkish officials. The meeting in Erbil highlighted the importance of building on those talks.
Masrour Barzani and Turkish Envoy Discuss Trade and Regional Cooperation
The talks focused on stronger cooperation between Erbil and Ankara. Both sides pointed to trade as an area with room for further growth.
Türkiye remains one of the Kurdistan Region’s key economic partners. Cross-border trade, energy links, and transport routes continue to shape relations between the two sides.
The meeting also covered political developments in Iraq. Both sides discussed the need to support the new federal government as it works to address unresolved issues and current challenges.
Energy and Oil Exports Through Ceyhan Port Discussed
Energy was another major part of the meeting.
Prime Minister Masrour Barzani and the Turkish ambassador discussed Iraq’s energy sector and the need to continue Iraqi and Kurdistan Region oil exports through Türkiye’s Ceyhan port.
They also stressed the need to raise oil production, increase public revenues, and improve Iraq’s financial position.
The discussion comes as energy exports remain central to Iraq’s economy and to the Kurdistan Region’s financial stability.
For the Kurdistan Region, the Ceyhan route remains important for access to global markets. A stable export process could support public revenue and help reduce financial pressure.
The meeting showed continued contact between Erbil and Ankara on trade, energy, and regional issues.
