In a moment that beautifully captures the spirit of Kurdish unity and compassion, Zakho SC supporters have been nominated for the FIFA 2025 Fan Award, earning international recognition for one of the most touching acts of sportsmanship seen this year.

The nomination comes after an unforgettable scene at Zakho International Stadium, where fans showered the pitch with thousands of stuffed animals before a match against Al-Hedood. The toys were later donated to children battling cancer, turning a football fixture into a symbol of kindness and solidarity that resonated far beyond the stadium walls.

Zakho SC’s Humanitarian Act Recognized by FIFA 2025 Fan Award

FIFA announced the three global nominees for the prestigious award earlier this month, officially including Zakho SC among them. Voting for the 2025 edition is open until November 28, giving supporters worldwide a chance to back the Kurdish club’s inspiring gesture.

Zakho SC released a heartfelt statement following the announcement: “The selection of our supporters by FIFA demonstrates that the right work in the service of humanity is being accomplished.” The club also expressed hope that this recognition would motivate further community-driven and humanitarian efforts in the future.

Founded in 1987 and based in the northern Kurdish city of Zakho in Duhok province, the club has long been a source of local pride. But this latest moment has elevated their name onto the world stage, showing how Kurdish football culture is as compassionate as it is passionate.

This nomination follows another milestone earlier in the year, when Zakho and Duhok SC made history by meeting in the Iraq FA Cup final — the first time two Kurdish teams have faced each other in a major national final held in Baghdad.

For many, the teddy bear toss was more than a charitable act — it was a reminder that sport can bridge humanity, empathy, and identity. In a time when global football often focuses on money and controversy, Zakho’s fans showed what the game is truly about: community, care, and heart.
