KRG Expands Educational Infrastructure with New Schools, Universities, and Renovations

In a decisive move to strengthen the foundation of future generations, the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) has achieved remarkable progress in expanding and modernizing the Region’s educational infrastructure over the past five years.

Education remains at the heart of the KRG’s long-term vision for an informed, innovative, and prosperous society. Within this period, the government has constructed 225 new schools to meet population growth and reduce classroom overcrowding, while renovating 2,114 schools and adding 629 new classrooms across the Kurdistan Region. These efforts have created more inclusive and better-equipped learning environments for hundreds of thousands of students.

The government has also made significant strides in higher education, establishing two new universities, 21 specialized colleges and institutes, and dozens of new academic departments. These additions aim to align educational programs with the evolving needs of the labor market and global academic standards.

Beyond buildings and infrastructure, the KRG has placed a strong focus on human capital — successfully reintegrating 33,271 students who had previously left their studies, ensuring that more young people have access to opportunities that can shape their future.

Together, these milestones reflect a clear vision: education as the cornerstone of national development. The KRG’s ongoing investment in schools, universities, and teacher training is paving the way for a smarter, more resilient Kurdistan — one where knowledge serves as the bridge to economic and social progress.
