The Shaqlawa–Korre road is taking shape as one of the Kurdistan Region’s most important infrastructure projects. Spanning 10 kilometres as a dual carriageway, the route is being built under the Ninth Cabinet of the KRG with an investment of IQD 90.538 billion.
Now 35% complete, the project is moving faster than expected and is likely to finish ahead of its original two-year schedule. It relies on local labour and includes the long-awaited completion of the Mirawa and Mawran tunnels.

Three new intersections are also part of the design, aimed at reducing congestion and cutting traffic accidents. For citizens and businesses, this means safer travel, easier connections, and new opportunities for trade and tourism in Shaqlawa and the surrounding areas.
Like highway expansions in other countries, where smoother commutes quickly change daily life, the Shaqlawa–Korre road is set to become a vital link — one that residents may soon wonder how they ever lived without.
