Under the leadership of the Kurdistan Regional Government’s (KRG) Ninth Cabinet, significant progress has been achieved in expanding and modernizing the Region’s water infrastructure.
To date, nine dams have been constructed at a total cost of approximately IQD 266 billion, providing a combined storage capacity of around 253 million cubic metres of water.
In addition, 23 ponds have been completed, with construction underway on 58 more across the Kurdistan Region.

These initiatives are a central part of the KRG’s broader water management strategy, aimed at safeguarding groundwater reserves, improving agricultural productivity, and supporting rural communities. The program also plays a vital role in mitigating the impacts of climate change and drought, while fostering sustainable tourism and regional development.
