The Ba’adre–Etit Dual Carriageway has reached 80 percent completion, according to the Kurdistan Regional Government. The major road project will create a safer and faster transport link between Erbil and Duhok.
The 26-kilometre route forms part of wider efforts to improve road infrastructure across the Kurdistan Region. Once complete, it is expected to ease traffic, reduce road accidents, and support trade between key cities and towns.
Ba’adre–Etit Dual Carriageway Enters Final Stages
The Ba’adre–Etit Dual Carriageway is being built through three main phases that are moving forward at the same time.
The first phase is now 95 percent complete. Work on the other two phases has also entered its final stages.
More than 2,000 local engineers and workers are involved in the project. They are using about 1,500 heavy machines and equipment units.
Six concrete batching plants are also supporting the construction work.
The Kurdistan Regional Government said local workers, engineers, and resources have played a central role in the project.
Major Engineering Work Completed
Construction teams have carried out large-scale excavation and engineering work along the route.
Workers have removed about six million cubic metres of earth. They have also built six kilometres of retaining walls to support the road and protect nearby land.
The project includes 100 culverts designed to manage rainwater and reduce the risk of flooding or water damage.
Construction teams have used about 45,000 tonnes of reinforcing steel across the development.
These structures are needed to support bridges, road sections, walls, and other parts of the route.
New Road to Include Service Routes and Crossings
The Ba’adre–Etit Dual Carriageway will include two main carriageways. Each side will be about 13 metres wide.
The project also includes around 30 kilometres of service roads. These roads will provide access to nearby communities, businesses, and local routes without placing extra pressure on the main highway.
Eleven overpasses and underpasses are being built at key points along the road.
The crossings are expected to improve traffic movement and reduce delays at busy intersections. They will also provide safer connections for drivers travelling between nearby areas.
Road Project Expected to Improve Erbil–Duhok Travel
The completed road will strengthen the transport link between Erbil and Duhok.
The route is expected to reduce congestion and shorten travel times. It may also improve the movement of goods between major commercial centres in the Kurdistan Region.
Better road links can help businesses reach markets more quickly. They can also improve access to public services, workplaces, and nearby communities.
The new design aims to reduce the risks linked to narrow roads, unsafe crossings, and heavy traffic.
Remaining Work Continues
The Kurdistan Regional Government said work is continuing on the remaining 20 percent of the project.
Officials said the focus remains on meeting construction standards and completing the road according to schedule.
Once opened, the Ba’adre–Etit Dual Carriageway will become an important part of the Kurdistan Region’s road network. It will support safer travel, stronger regional links, and long-term economic activity.
