Masrour Barzani Meets Chaldean Patriarch Mar Polis III Nona in Erbil on Monday, with talks focused on Christian rights and peaceful coexistence in the Kurdistan Region.
Prime Minister Masrour Barzani received the patriarch, who leads the Chaldean Church in Iraq and around the world, on August 3.
The meeting addressed the importance of protecting the Kurdistan Region’s diverse religious and ethnic communities. Both sides called for stronger efforts to preserve the region’s culture of peaceful coexistence.
Barzani reaffirmed the Kurdistan Regional Government’s commitment to protecting the rights of Christians and other communities.
He said the KRG would continue serving all groups without discrimination.
Patriarch Mar Polis III Nona thanked the prime minister for his continued support for Christians living in the Kurdistan Region.
Christians have long formed part of the region’s social and cultural fabric. The Kurdistan Region is home to Chaldean, Assyrian, Syriac and Armenian communities, among others.
The meeting reflected continued talks between the KRG and Christian religious leaders on community rights, representation and coexistence.
